sora was founded on the idea of harnessing the local water resource – efficiently, economically and harmonizing with the natural conditions of the Alpine region. Company founder Kassian Sora recognized the potential of hydropower at an early stage and realized the first projects in Val Badia in 1989. His inventive spirit and technical expertise continue to shape the company to this day.

Since 2014, sora has been further developed under new ownership. By expanding production and consistently strengthening in-house manufacturing, the company has evolved into a modern mechanical engineering enterprise that manages all key stages of hydropower plant construction internally.

Through close cooperation with en-co, led by Matthias Steindl, we now deliver hydropower solutions based on the water-to-wire principle: mechanical and electrical engineering from a single source, technically integrated and developed in close collaboration.

Today, we plan, manufacture and install custom small hydropower plants, revitalize existing facilities and support operators throughout the entire life cycle of their plants. Decades of experience and deep in-house know-how form the foundation for economical, efficient and long-lasting energy solutions.

sora was founded in 1986 by Kassian Sora – initially as a small workshop in a garage. By 1989, the first dedicated workshop was built at the current location. In the following years, production was continuously expanded and modernized, transforming the small workshop into a growing mechanical engineering company.

With the acquisition by new shareholders in 2014, a phase of technical development began. In 2017, a new factory and office building was constructed, and the entire production was modernized. Between 2018 and 2021, the machinery park was comprehensively upgraded – including state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machines, among them the largest milling machine in the Puster Valley.

Today, sora employs a young, technically ambitious team of around 25 people – a balanced mix of apprentices, journeymen and master craftsmen. The company now combines nearly 40 years of experience with modern technology and innovative approaches.

From the small workshop of the past, sora has grown into an experienced, technically proficient hydropower construction company – fully prepared for the future.
